Five signs that you are experiencing discrimination, bullying or harassment

Article, Blog, Discrimination

Discrimination, bullying and harassment at work can have a devastating impact on a person’s mental and physical health, as well as their job performance and overall well-being. Unfortunately, many people may not realize they are being bullied or harassed until the situation has escalated. Here are five signs to watch out for:

Verbal abuse:

If a co-worker or supervisor is constantly belittling or criticizing you in a way that is not constructive or helpful, this could be a sign of discrimination or bullying. Verbal abuse can be especially harmful because it can make you feel powerless and demoralized.

Isolation:

If you find yourself being excluded from meetings, social events or conversations at work, it may be a sign that your co-workers or supervisor are trying to isolate you. This can be a subtle form of bullying and discrimination, and it can make you feel like you don’t belong or that you’re not valued.

Intimidation:

If a co-worker or supervisor is using threats, physical gestures or other forms of intimidation to get you to comply with their demands, this is a clear sign of harassment or discrimination. This behavior can be extremely frightening and can cause you to feel unsafe at work.

Excessive workload:

If you’re being given an unreasonable amount of work or being expected to work long hours without proper compensation, this could be a sign of discrimination, bullying or harassment. This can be especially harmful if it is preventing you from taking care of your personal life and your health.

Physical abuse:

If a co-worker or supervisor is physically harming you, this is a clear sign of harassment, bullying or discrimination and should be addressed immediately.
